August 3-5, Glennallen & Tok AK
Not much to report here since these are return trips. Barb is in a funk about leaving the gorgeous coastal mountains and has informed Dennis she will probably pout for about 4 days. He is prepared. We came across this eagle meeting - golden, bald, golden - while leaving Valdez. The pics are a little blurry due to the continued mist, but it was quite a sight to see. We also found this bald eagle, who apparently has one of those slow cell phones, causing him to miss the meeting. The upside to cloudy days is that the blue in the glaciers is more pronounced. The highway from Glennallen to Tok was quite pretty, but the mountaintops were covered in clouds, making it impossible to take good pictures. We ran into about 15 miles of construction today. This made us think about all the people who have told horror stories about the roads here. We have been in fewer than 30 miles (out of 5,400) of construction. The gravel in the construction areas is as smooth or smoother than the roads. So, we have concluded that some of our RV brethren are prone to exaggerate! We noticed today that the fireweed has now bloomed all the way to the top so it's time for a little folklore. Supposedly this means that winter is now six weeks away. Although we're sad that we'll be leaving Alaska in a couple days, we are glad that we won't be here once the snow starts falling. The RV is many things, but all-terrain vehicle is not one of those things!

Totally enjoyed reading your blog and looking at the wonderful pictures. Sorry that you did not meet up with Sarah, though. Bummer. I doubt she's down here as it's still too hot. She sure can make the media buzz, can't she? Take your time coming 'downhill' as ohhhhh the heat has been bad. Some wonderful thunderstorms in the evening however and that's always a plus. Be safe. I'll keep watching the blog for updates.
