June 6-8, Lake Meziadin Provincial Park BC

It's pronounced "Mezzee-add-in" but we have a hard time remembering that. We keep ending up in more remote places. This is a beautiful park, our campsite is on a point and our windshield faces the lake. The views out all windows are amazing. The only downside is the mosquitoes. Summer in AZ has ONE advantage! The towns of Stewart BC and Hyder AK are about 40 miles away. Hyder is not connected to Alaska in any way and looks to have fewer than 100 residents. Stewart is larger, but we still wonder why people live there. Both towns are 90 miles down a fjord from the Pacific. The tide was out while we were there and the bay was nothing but mud flats, but apparently cargo ships come in for concentrated iron ore exports. Dennis was "Hyderized" at the Glacier Inn. This consists of paying $4 for a small mystery shot poured from a bottle wrapped in a paper bag and you agree that you will buy the house a round if you are unsuccessful. Turns out it's Everclear and he did just fine. Also, there were about 10 people in the bar and all were drinking coffee or water, so we were never in any real danger. We drove a block back down the street to pass back into British Columbia. There was no border station going into AK, but there is in BC. We hadn't brought our passports and Dennis had just had a shot of booze. After some questions and a reminder to carry passports, the border agent let us through. We offered to let her search the car, but she declined. Aggie, did you read that?? We figure she's probably checking more for drunk drivers than anything else. We stopped for a snack at the cutely decorated grocery store in Stewart, then headed back to the RV. We spotted 5 more bears, 2 bald eagles, no moose. We stopped at Bear Glacier going both directions. Note that Dennis stopped just on the "no parking" side of the rock slide sign! Maybe that border agent would like to re-think letting him into Canada! The temperature was up to 75 degrees today. Cooking in the compact RV kitchen seems to be so much more enjoyable than at home so we eat quite well on the road. Barb is on a chicken pot pie kick but never makes it the same way twice. We've had 3 versions since we left home. Chocolate cake with cranberries was also on the agenda yesterday, so we'll be snacking on that for days. Steak and potatoes tonight in our dining room with a view. Life is good!
